A dog that suddenly loses interest in food it used to eat isn't picky - it's telling you something. Dental pain, nausea and illness all present as 'won't eat', so a genuine appetite change, especially with lethargy or weight loss, is a vet visit before it's a food-shopping trip.
Chronic pickiness is different: a healthy dog that has always been selective, holds out for better options, and eats enthusiastically when the right thing appears. That dog doesn't have a medical problem - it has a strategy.
